Helpful Tips on Hiring an Entertainer
Hiring a professional entertainer can make a special event unforgettable. Finding the right one for your event can be overwhelming and confusing. Here is a list of things to consider as you search.
- Look for a full-time entertainer.
Many entertainers are part-timers who entertain on the weekends to supplement their 9-5 incomes. A "full-time" entertainer is always your best option, as they will have the most experience and a shared interest in making your event the best it can be.
- Make sure that you seek out an entertainer who is good with children.
Not all entertainers truly understand how to entertain young audiences. You want to make certain that you choose an entertainer who has a proven track record of success when performing for kids. Just like a pediatrician specializes in treating kids, so should the entertainer you hire.
- Check reviews and references.
Entertaining a young audience is no easy task! Booking an entertainer who is just starting out is a risky endeavor and one that you may not want to take a chance on. A good entertainer will be able to provide references on request from past clients. Be wary of those who cannot or will not give you any references or recommendations. - You get what you pay for.
The price of a good entertainer generally reflects the quality of the services they offer. If you hire someone because of their "great price" but they end up putting the kids to sleep, you've actually overpaid. A full time professional entertainer will deliver a show that your guests will remember for years. As with most things in life, "good" and "cheap" usually do not go together.
- Talk to your entertainer before your event.
A true professional entertainer will speak with you personally before your event in order to personalize the entertainment to your specific needs. This helps ensure that everything runs smoothly and that your guests have a wonderful experience.
Frequently Asked Questions
What needs to be provided for the show?
I arrive completely self-contained. I bring all the tables and other equipment necessary for the show. No electricity is required. The sound system I utilize is portable and battery powered. All you need to supply is the audience!
Is tipping necessary?
Tipping is completely at your discretion if you feel that you received value above and beyond your expectations. I guarantee the same level of quality and professionalism regardless.
How can I prepare for the show?
First, determine what area you would like to have the show (usually the largest room available). You may wish to clear some furniture from this area to allow for more open floor seating. I suggest removing any small, breakable, or potentially dangerous items from the performance area. If you have large pets, please secure them in another area.
How much space is needed to set up the show?
My performance and equipment have been designed to be adaptable to a variety of performing situations. Every setting is different, and it is my goal to provide minimum disruption in performing at your residence or other venue. Generally, an area about 6' x 10' is ideal with an area in front of that for audience seating.
Can we have you perform outside?
Sometimes, provided there is shaded area for the guests and I during the performance. I cannot perform in direct sunshine as it is harmful to both me and my equipment. Indoors is generally the most preferred set-up location. Having the show indoors allows for a more controlled environment, and subsequently, a better performance.
Can you perform at a public park?
Yes, if there is shaded area for the guests and I during the performance.
What are my payment options? Is it okay to pay by check? Credit Cards?
You may pay by cash, check, PayPal, or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express).
May we videotape and/or take photos?
Yes, of course! There are plenty of great photo and video opportunities during the show. I also love receiving photos and video from my clients!
What is the cancellation policy?
Once the event is booked, there are no refunds. Please note that any risk of bad weather for outdoor events is borne entirely by the client, and that cancellations due to bad weather are still subject to the full fee. If you are planning an outdoor party, an alternate indoor location is highly recommended.
When should we start the show ?
I suggest that you do not start the show until at least 30 minutes into the event to allow for late arrivals.
Are you insured?
Yes. I maintain a 3 million dollar liability insurance policy to cover potential personal and property damages. Insurance certificate available upon request.
Do you face paint or play games with the children?
No. I will gladly recommend someone if you are looking for other entertainment options to compliment my show.
